Beneath the summer sky, Parc Louis-Cyr offers a cool respite. This isn’t just any park. Parc Louis-Cyr is a place where history, nature, and recreation intertwine. The park is named after the legendary Louis Cyr, a French-Canadian strongman. He was often called the “strongest man in the world.” Parc Louis-Cyr commemorates this local hero. It provides a place for relaxation, enjoyment of nature, and outdoor activities. Families gather here for picnics under the shade of trees. Children frolic in the play fountains, their laughter echoing through the air. The park comes alive with the joyful shrieks of children enjoying the splash pad. Imagine the refreshing spray of water on a hot summer’s day. The splash pad features a misty frog, tall spraying leaves, and even water cannons for interactive play. For the little ones, a fenced and gated toddler playground offers a safe haven. It has a small play structure with stairs, a steering wheel, and little pods to cross. Slides and swings add to the fun. Older children can challenge themselves on the tall climber with ladders, monkey bars, a rock climbing wall, and a rope bridge. A slide with a unique hole adds an element of excitement. Adults can relax on the numerous benches and picnic tables, or even enjoy the adult swings. Beyond the playgrounds and splash pad, Parc Louis-Cyr extends further. A soccer field provides space for athletic pursuits. A dog park welcomes furry friends for exercise and socialization. In the heart of the park stands a monument to Louis Cyr. The bronze statue captures his powerful physique and determined gaze. He is depicted in his weightlifter’s outfit, arms crossed, a barbell at his feet. A bronze belt, inscribed “Fortissimo” and framed by maple leaves, adorns his waist. This belt was a gift from the Société Saint-Jean-Baptiste, presented to him in 1908. Parc Louis-Cyr, a place of remembrance, recreation, and community.
