Craving a green escape? Then you’re in the right spot. Welcome to Parc des Étangs also known as Vijverspark. This 9-hectare park offers a refreshing break from city life.

Parc des Étangs was created in the 1960s. Anderlecht’s land management company developed it. The park features a wide strip of land. It includes a series of ponds surrounded by natural vegetation.

Notice the decorative white willows along the banks. They rival even the most exotic ornamental trees. Weeping willows and hawthorns also dot the landscape. You’ll see many maple varieties too. The park sits at the bottom of the Neerpedebeek valley. The stream continues through the rural Neerpede area.

Though man-made the pond banks host typical Brabant vegetation. Look for matting reeds and arrowhead plants. Yellow water lilies also thrive here. You might spot water plantain great hairy willow herb and rushes. Yellow irises reeds and cattails add to the scenery. These ponds create a perfect habitat for many water birds.

The wide dolomite paths are classic for the 1960s. The park’s furniture and playgrounds match this style. Even the urban planning reflects the era. High-rise buildings blend with commercial areas. You can spot schools and single-family homes nearby.

Parc des Étangs provides several facilities. It offers access for people with limited mobility. You can find sport facilities here. There is even a designated off-leash dog area. Petanque courts and health trails offer more recreation. A dog toilet caters to pet owners.

The park is always open to the public. The only exception is during strong winds. Parc des Étangs is located between three avenues. These are Maurice Carême Avenue Doctor Lemoine Avenue and Marius Renard Avenue. Tram 81 stops nearby. Get off at Frans Hals Marius Renard or Vivès-park.

Consider Parc des Étangs a green lung in Anderlecht. Enjoy the blend of nature recreation and urban design. Take a stroll around the ponds. Watch the birds. Enjoy a moment of peace in this unique Brussels park.
