Let me share a story behind this unique name. Near the temple was a disabled watchman. He dutifully performed his duties. The temple’s priest, Gopi Upadhyay, mentioned this watchman. He said that the watchman was devoted to listening to the Ram Katha. This is a narration of the Ramayana.
Once, a Kotwal, a police official, saw the disabled watchman. He was engrossed in listening to the Ram Katha. The Kotwal was surprised. He questioned how the watchman could manage two jobs at once. The disabled watchman replied that he was listening to the Ram Kahani. He added that his guard duties were being carried out by Bajrang Bali. Bajrang Bali is another name for Hanuman.
The Kotwal didn’t understand this mystery. He summoned the watchman. He asked how he could be in two places at once. The disabled watchman explained that he only listened to Ram’s story. He said that his guard duty was performed by Bajrang Bali.
The Kotwal was astonished. He understood the secret. Because of this, the temple became known as Langde ki Chowki. People believe that every wish is fulfilled here. Devotees throng here every Tuesday and Saturday.
Every Tuesday and Saturday, devotees flock here. They offer Chola to Hanuman Ji. The temple is beautifully decorated with flowers. These flowers even come from foreign countries. Devotees wait eagerly to decorate Hanuman with flowers. Bookings are made months in advance.
The Panch Mukhi Temple remains open from 6 am to 12 am. However, on Tuesdays, it closes for a short period. It is closed from 1 pm to 2:30 pm. During this time, Hanuman Ji is offered Chola.
