“Imagine houses where home runs once soared.” That’s what came to my mind standing here at Namba Parks the former site of Osaka Stadium also known as Panasonic Baseball Stadion. This isn’t just any shopping mall. It’s a place where baseball history once thrilled thousands.

Panasonic Baseball Stadion has quite the story. It opened in 1950 and could hold over 32000 fans. For many years until 1988, it was home to the Nankai Hawks.

Picture this stadium filled with cheering fans. The Nankai Hawks played their hearts out right here. They were later known as the Fukuoka Daiei Hawks and then the Fukuoka Softbank Hawks.

But times change. In 1991, something unusual happened. The stadium transformed into a housing exhibition. Model homes popped up where the baseball field used to be. Fake streets and parked cars completed the scene. It was quite a sight.

Think about it. The pitcher’s mound became someone’s front yard. The stands gave way to neat rows of houses. This unusual concept drew many curious visitors.

Though the stadium is gone, its memory remains. Namba Parks now stands in its place. But there are nods to the past. You can find the home plate and mound on Canyon Street. They are on the second floor. Nearby, you can shop at IL BISONTE, BEAMS, and SHIPS.

If you want to delve deeper, head to the 9th floor. There’s a gallery showcasing the Nankai Hawks’ 50-year history. You’ll find photos of past players, the championship cup, and old uniforms. It is a trip down memory lane.

Panasonic Baseball Stadion hosted more than just baseball. Big names like Madonna and Michael Jackson performed here. Their concerts drew huge crowds turning the stadium into a music mecca.

So, while you’re shopping or dining at Namba Parks remember what came before. The Panasonic Baseball Stadion was more than just a stadium. It was a place of dreams home runs and unforgettable moments. It is now a unique blend of sports history and modern life.
