Nestled in Chengdu is Pan’ao a place that was once a township. Imagine that Pan’ao was a bustling center. Now let’s delve into the story of Pan’ao.

Pan’ao’s story takes an interesting turn in December 2019. The township was revoked. Its administrative area was placed under the jurisdiction of Qinjia Town.

Chengdu itself is a city with a rich history. It is the capital of Sichuan province. Chengdu sits on the fertile Chengdu Plain. This plain features the ancient Dujiangyan irrigation system. The Min River waters this system.

The Qin dynasty first set up the irrigation system. It diverted half the Min River’s waters eastward. This irrigated the plain through a network of channels. The system still exists in its original form. It supports one of the densest agrarian populations.

Chengdu is said to have been founded by the Qin. This was before they controlled all of China. The county of Chengdu was established during their imperial rule.

Under the Tang dynasty, Chengdu was known as Yizhou. It was one of the empire’s greatest commercial cities. Merchants introduced paper money then. This spread throughout China under the Song dynasty.

Chengdu became famous for its fine brocades and satins. The city displayed refined culture and luxury. Throughout history Chengdu has been a major administrative center. It became the capital of Sichuan in 1368.

Chengdu grew rapidly during World War II. Refugees from eastern China settled there. This stimulated trade and commerce. Several universities moved there as well.

Chengdu has always been an important communication center. Waterways extend throughout the Sichuan Basin. Railways connect Chengdu to other major cities.

The city is also a major industrial center. Chengdu became an important center of China’s national defense industry in the 1960s. The city’s oldest industry textiles remains important.

Chengdu remains a major cultural center. Sichuan is home to much of the world’s giant panda population. Chengdu has a panda-breeding facility.

While Pan’ao itself may no longer be a township its story is interwoven with Chengdu’s. The city’s history and culture have shaped the region. From ancient irrigation systems to modern industries Chengdu continues to evolve. Pan’ao’s story is part of this larger narrative.
