Founded in 2008 by Jamin McCallum a former accountant Palmetto State Armory started small fulfilling online orders from his garage. Today it’s a giant. The company employs over 200 people. It’s become a major player in the firearms world. Former South Carolina Governor Nikki Haley even called it a valued member of the state’s business community.
Palmetto State Armory is famous for its AR-15 rifles and pistols. But they’ve branched out. They now make AKM-style rifles too. They even have an exclusive contract with FN America. This provides them with the world’s only FN AK barrels. These are used in their high-end AK-E rifles. Palmetto State Armory also uses FN cold hammer-forged barrels for their AR-15s. They’re not just selling guns. They offer a full range of products. This includes 1911 handguns AR-10 rifles 9mm AR pistols and various AR-style uppers. Their newest creation is the PSA Dagger pistol a 9mm handgun based on the Glock G19. The Dagger is also available in a hybrid configuration. The company even produces a 5.7x28mm pistol called the 5.7 Rock.
But the Palmetto State Armory isn’t just about manufacturing. They’ve also got retail stores. Seven of them in fact spread across South Carolina Georgia and North Carolina. And there’s more. They even have an outdoor shooting facility in Swansea South Carolina. They’re expanding too. A new location in Myrtle Beach is slated to open. This will be in the former Sun News building.
Palmetto State Armory is part of a larger family. It’s under the JJE Capital umbrella. This group manages a number of brands including DC Machine Ferrous Engineering Lead Star Arms PSA Defense Palmetto Outdoors Special Tool Solutions and Spartan Forge. In 2020 JJE Capital acquired even more brands. This was from the Freedom Group bankruptcy auction. These included DPMS H&R Stormlake AAC and Parker.
