Gazing upon Palazzo Ghirlanda-Silva, one can almost hear whispers of centuries past. Palazzo Ghirlanda-Silva stands as a testament to time. It has witnessed the ebb and flow of history in Brugherio. Originally documented in the 16th century, Palazzo Ghirlanda-Silva served as a noble residence for the Counts Scotti. The palazzo’s architecture reflects its long history. It boasts a U-shaped structure, a grand main entrance on Via Italia, and a tranquil internal courtyard. Later, the ownership of Palazzo Ghirlanda-Silva passed to the Silva family. This family also owned another notable property in Brugherio. The Silvas left their mark on the palazzo. Subsequently, it fell into the hands of the Ghirlanda family of Milan, who ultimately sold it to the Comune di Brugherio in 1872. This sale marked a turning point. Palazzo Ghirlanda-Silva transitioned from a private residence to a public space. It became the municipal seat and housed a school, serving the community. In 1982, renovations began to transform Palazzo Ghirlanda-Silva into the Biblioteca Civica. This transformation, while well-intentioned, significantly altered the palazzo’s original structure. Further restorations were necessary in 1998. A structural issue prompted these repairs. The restoration included adding wooden supports. Today, Palazzo Ghirlanda-Silva stands proud. It continues its journey as a vital part of Brugherio’s cultural landscape.
