Palazzina Testa

Is this a mirage? This grand, almost imposing, building before us, the Palazzina Testa, doesn’t seem to belong to this world. It’s as if plucked from a Renaissance painting and dropped right here in Piazza d’Azeglio. Don’t be intimidated by its grandeur. The Palazzina Testa, despite its size, has a charm that draws you in. Built in the 19th century, this three-story giant stretches out before us, its facade an interesting mix of architectural styles. Notice the central part of the building. It’s adorned with faux stone blocks, a technique that adds a touch of drama and depth. The ground floor follows this design, while the upper floors feature gracefully receding projections. This clever design trick creates a sense of visual rhythm, making the building appear lighter and more dynamic. Look closely above the main entrance. See that impressive balcony stretching across? It connects three grand arched windows that seem to gaze out at the square. But the real treasure is the shield right above the doorway. This emblem proudly displays the coat of arms of the Testa family, the original owners of the Palazzina Testa who hailed from a town called Anagni. This symbol of their lineage adds another layer of historical intrigue to this already fascinating building.
