Is it possible to house a swimming pool, ice rink and fitness center all under one roof? Welcome to the Palais des sports Jean Bouin. It is a multi-sports complex that does just that.
The Palais des sports Jean Bouin stands as a testament to Nice’s commitment to sports and recreation. This complex in Nice offers many activities for athletes and the public.
Construction began in 1981 or 1982. The Palais des sports Jean Bouin opened its doors on April 18, 1984. The city of Nice owns this impressive structure. Georges-Xavier Marguerita was the architect behind this design.
The Palais des sports Jean Bouin replaced the former Jean Bouin athletics stadium. The old stadium was previously named XV Corps stadium. It was built in 1937 and renamed in 1951. The new complex was constructed partly on the old parade ground. This area was known as Place du XVe Corps from 1920.
Jacques Mèdecin’s municipality built it. Charles Ehrmann, the deputy for sports, convinced the mayor to add a skating rink and an Olympic swimming pool. This was in addition to the parking lot that he wanted to create next to the Acropolis exhibition center and congress center. The Acropolis had just opened.
The building is made of steel and concrete. It stands 27 meters tall. The Palais des sports Jean Bouin has seven floors plus one underground level. There is parking for 1,928 vehicles. The upper floors feature a glass facade.
The swimming pool has two pools. One is an Olympic-size pool measuring 50 meters. It is the only covered Olympic pool in the Alpes-Maritimes.
The Olympic ice rink is home to the Nice Hockey Côte d’Azur ice hockey team. The Olympic swimming pool is home to the Olympic Nice Natation water polo team.
Jean Bouin complex has three sports locations in one building. Find the skating rink and Olympic swimming pool on the 5th floor. The fitness room is located on the 4th floor. There are also four floors of car parking. One floor is a park and ride. It provides practical access to the heart of Nice.
The Palais des sports Jean Bouin is open all year. From Monday to Sunday it welcomes sports enthusiasts from 6:30 AM to 1:00 AM.
The Palais des sports Jean Bouin is named after Jean Bouin. He was a famous French long-distance runner born in 1888 and died in 1914. The Palais des sports Jean Bouin is more than just a sports complex. It is a hub of activity, a place where athletes train and compete. A place where the community comes together to enjoy sports and recreation. A fitting tribute to Jean Bouin.
