Behold Palacio Nacional in Cali a majestic structure that stands as a testament to history. Its neoclassical French design is breathtaking. Imagine the grandeur of its construction.

Palacio Nacional is more than just a building. It’s a symbol of Cali’s rich past. It houses the Seccional Council of the Judiciary the Administrative Tribunal of Valle del Cauca and the Superior Court of Cali. It even features a small museum commemorating sugarcane cultivation and processing. A fascinating blend of justice and agriculture.

Construction began on February 15 1928. The national government commissioned the Pacific Railroad company for the project. The design was the brainchild of Belgian architect Joseph Martens. He envisioned a modern administrative center. It would unite government institutions previously scattered throughout the city. The original design however underwent modifications to better suit Cali’s needs.

The construction wasn’t without its challenges. Public order issues in October 1931 caused a halt. Engineer Pablo Emilio Páez abandoned the project. Engineer Guillermo Garrido stepped in completing the Palacio in 1933.

The Palacio is built on 2455 square meters. It boasts five floors. Four are dedicated to administration mail offices audits and more. A basement level completes the structure. The building housed a total of 28 offices. Imagine the bustling activity within those walls.

The architectural details are exquisite. Reinforced cement and brick form the sturdy structure. Concrete floors add to its robustness. Intricately carved cedar wood adorns the windows and doors. Bronze alloy locks add a touch of elegance. The domes and roof tiles complete the stunning aesthetic. A beautiful example of craftsmanship.

On July 25 1977 Palacio Nacional received national monument status. A well deserved recognition of its historical and architectural significance.

Today Palacio Nacional stands proudly. It’s a vibrant hub of justice cultural preservation and Cali’s identity. A true gem of Colombia.
