How about stepping back in time at the Palace Museum? It is located in the heart of Beijing. It is also known as the Beijing Palace Museum. This vast complex was once the Forbidden City.

Imagine emperors of the Ming and Qing dynasties walking these very courtyards. They ruled China from here for centuries. The Palace Museum opened to the public in 1925. It followed the eviction of the last emperor.

Some of these evacuated artifacts went to Taiwan. Today, they form the core of the National Palace Museum in Taipei. More than 8,000 boxes returned to Beijing.
