Wondering how childhood diseases are being fought right here in Hanover? This is the Padiatrisches Forschungszentrum. It is an interdisciplinary research center. The center covers all research areas of pediatrics.
To successfully treat pediatric diseases in the future, much more is needed. It requires cooperation from various research fields. These fields include basic science, preclinical, clinical, bioinformatics, and epidemiology within a specialty.
The Padiatrisches Forschungszentrum is located on the campus of the Hannover Medical School. Specifically it is in building I10. Here, various working groups focus on different areas of pediatric medicine.
One group studies allergy and tolerance with Prof. Dr. med. Gesine Hansen. Another group focuses on inflammatory lung diseases in childhood led by PD Dr. med. Anna-Maria Dittrich. Molecular pathology of cystic fibrosis is investigated by Prof. Dr. med. Dr. rer. nat. Burkhard Tümmler. Clinical research in cystic fibrosis is done by Dr. med. Sibylle Junge and PD Dr. med. Anna-Maria Dittrich.
The Padiatrisches Forschungszentrum also houses an experimental neonatology group. This is led by Prof. Dr. med. Dorothee Viemann. Translational hematology is another focus area led by Prof. Dr. rer. nat. Nico Lachmann. Adaptive immunotherapy is studied under Prof. Dr. med. Martin Sauer. Cellular immunotherapy is explored by PD. Dr. med. Britta Maecker-Kohlhoff.
Research into childhood ALL is conducted by Prof. Dr. med. Martin Stanulla and Prof. Dr. med. Christian Kratz. Acute myeloid leukemia AML is studied by Dr. rer. nat. Tobias Maetzig. Clinical nephrology is led by Prof. Dr. med. Dieter Haffner.
The Padiatrisches Forschungszentrum explores cardiac and renal pathophysiology. This is under the direction of PD Dr. rer. nat. Maren Leifheit-Nestler. Cystic kidney diseases are researched by Dr. rer. nat. Wolfgang H. Ziegler. Pediatric metabolic disorders are investigated by Prof. Dr. med. Anibh M. Das.
Interdisciplinary experimental transplantation medicine is another key area. It is led by Prof. Dr. med. Dr. Anette Melk. Pulmonalvascular diseases and heart failure are studied at the Pulmonary Vascular Research Center PVRC. Prof. Dr. med. Georg Hansmann leads this research.
The Genomics Team of the RCUG is based at the Padiatrisches Forschungszentrum. This team is led by Dr. rer. nat. Lutz Wiehlmann.
The Center for Pediatrics and Adolescent Medicine is affiliated with Hannover Medical School MHH. It is located at Carl-Neuberg-Straße 1. The clinic offers first-class treatment and care for patients. Experienced specialists support children and their families. They offer support during and after treatment. This includes psychologists, social workers, nutritionists, and physiotherapists.
The clinic has five main areas. These include pediatric pneumology, allergology and neonatology. Also pediatric kidney, liver and metabolic diseases are researched. Further specializations are pediatric cardiology and pediatric intensive care medicine. The last specialization is pediatric hematology and oncology and pediatric surgery.
