“Academic Excellence, Ethical Responsibility, Global Engagement.” That motto encapsulates Pacific Ridge School’s core values. The school prepares students for college and a purposeful life. Pacific Ridge School is located in Carlsbad, California. More precisely, it’s nestled in the Bressi Ranch community.

Let’s step back to the fall of 2002. Several families envisioned an independent school in North County San Diego. They wanted a school that combined academic rigor with ethical values. This vision led to the founding of Pacific Ridge School. The school officially opened its doors in 2007.

Pacific Ridge School’s founding mission was simple but powerful. It aimed to foster academic excellence, ethical responsibility, and global engagement. These principles guide the school’s programs.

Dr. Eileen Mullady became the founding Head of School in 2005. She worked with teachers to design a curriculum that reflected the school’s mission. In the fall of 2007, Pacific Ridge School welcomed its first students in seventh and ninth grades.

Today, Pacific Ridge School educates around 685 students. These students are enrolled from sixth through twelfth grade. Dr. Bob Ogle is the current Head of School. He joined the founding staff in 2006. He helped implement the vision for Pacific Ridge School.

The school is known for its Harkness Learning method. Instead of traditional rows of desks, students sit around a large oval table. This setup promotes discussion and collaboration. Students learn from the teacher and each other. The student-to-faculty ratio is 7:1.

Pacific Ridge School offers a variety of extracurricular activities. Academic competition clubs include Model United Nations, Academic League, Science Olympiad, and Robotics. The school’s Model United Nations team hosts the annual North Coast Regional Conference.

Student publications thrive at Pacific Ridge School. Global Vantage is a student-run magazine that collaborates with students worldwide. The Element showcases digital media arts, studio arts, and poetry. Ridge Report is a weekly online student newspaper.

Pacific Ridge School also publishes its magazine, “The VIEW,” twice a year. Weekly e-newsletters keep the school community informed.

Pacific Ridge School is a member of the California Interscholastic Federation San Diego Section. It competes in the Coastal Conference. Middle school teams participate in the South Coast Middle School League. The school maintains a “no cut” participation policy. This allows all students to play team sports.

Pacific Ridge School’s rivals include The Bishop’s School, La Jolla Country Day School, and Francis Parker School. These schools are known for their strong academics and athletics.
