It’s a vibrant hub of creativity, nestled within Córdoba’s Ciudad Universitaria. This building pulses with the energy of aspiring artists, musicians, and performers. It’s the heart of the Faculty of Arts at the National University of Córdoba. The story of Pabellón México is intertwined with the evolution of the arts in Córdoba. Initially, the Escuela Superior de Bellas Artes was established in 1948, a brainchild of architect Ángel Lo Celso. Its first home was a charming old house on Colón 680. However, destiny had grander plans for the burgeoning arts scene. In the 1950s, a shift occurred. The university began occupying buildings in Ciudad Universitaria, originally intended as student housing. Pabellón México, designed with a different purpose in mind, became the new home for the Faculty of Arts in 1959. Imagine the transition. From a quaint house to a spacious pavilion, complete with parquet floors and built-in cupboards. These remnants of its intended purpose add a unique touch to the artistic atmosphere. Pabellón México stands as a testament to the resilience and adaptability of the arts. The 1960s marked a golden era for Pabellón México and the arts in Córdoba. Under the leadership of architect Rafael Bulgheroni, the school underwent a significant transformation. It was renamed the Escuela de Artes, reflecting a more focused and modern approach. The school flourished, attracting hundreds of students eager to hone their craft. During this period, Córdoba became a hub for international art, hosting the Bienal Americana de Arte in the nearby Pabellón Argentina. Pabellón México played a pivotal role in these events, further cementing its place in the city’s cultural landscape. Pabellón México has always been more than just classrooms and studios.
