You’ll also encounter corrugated drainage pipes, adding an unusual element to the natural landscape. One section requires a climb up to the paved River Mountains Loop bike path for a brief stretch before descending back into the canyon. The trail then skirts the edge of Lake Mead, offering expansive views of the valley. Keep an eye out for wildlife. Coyotes and bighorn sheep are known to frequent the area. The best time to visit Owl Canyon Trailhead is during the cooler months of late fall, winter, or early spring. If you hike during warmer weather, start early in the morning to avoid the heat.
