Imagine stepping back in time. The Overbrook Clinic stands as a testament to Houston’s medical evolution. It began operations as the Medical Clinic of Houston. This was one of the first practices in Houston to offer multiple services under one roof.

Did you know that Overbrook Clinic’s history is quite remarkable? The clinic first earned recognition for having accredited mammogram services in Houston. Overbrook Clinic was expanding its services to better serve the community. A second floor was added to the building. Then MCH physician Dr. Leatherman performed the first angioplasty in Houston.

Overbrook Clinic expanded its service area. It added the southern half of the 1707 Sunset building plus a third floor for administrative purposes. The clinic also expanded its patient parking area to accommodate increasing demand.

In a move towards modernization, MCH’s Diagnostic Imaging department went paperless and filmless. It became 100% digital for clearer, more efficient, and better diagnostic imaging.

MCH was the first US physician practice to install a Roche laboratory automation system. This enhanced laboratory efficiency and patient care. The clinic began offering Nutrition Education and a Diabetes Self-Management Education Program. The American Diabetes Association recognized it for Quality Self-Management Education. This acknowledges that the program offers high-quality education. This is an essential component of effective diabetes treatment.

Cardiac PET was added to MCH’s menu of non-invasive cardiology diagnostic services. This was available on-site for more comprehensive cardiac evaluation. Low-dose CT lung screening was made available in the Diagnostic Imaging department. Computerized tomography CT scans became safer for patients.

Endocrinology was added to MCH’s menu of sub-specialty physicians. Later six MCH physicians transitioned to a concierge-style practice. The clinic added a separate clinic within its walls. This was to better protect patients and employees during the COVID-19 pandemic. Patients meeting screening criteria were seen in the Satellite Clinic.

Overbrook Clinic acquired an advanced 128-slice CT scanner. This resulted in shorter patient scan times. It provided a more open 80 cm gantry aperture. This spaciously accommodated most patients. The scanner offered much more detailed images. It allowed for larger volume coverage. This made it easier to diagnose potentially difficult-to-identify conditions. 3D Mammography became available. It offered a more comfortable mammogram with the highest resolution 3D imaging. It detects more invasive cancers and reduced false positives. The FDA approved it as superior compared to conventional 2D mammography.

Today Overbrook Clinic stands as a pillar of healthcare in Houston. Its commitment to innovation and patient care continues. It’s a story of growth, adaptation, and dedication to the community’s well-being. From its humble beginnings to its modern facilities, Overbrook Clinic has remained steadfast. It provides cutting-edge medical services to the people of Houston.
