Our Lady of Mercy Convent School in Booterstown boasts a rich history. It all started in 1838. Catherine McAuley the foundress of the Sisters of Mercy opened a convent in Booterstown. Many sisters became teachers in local schools. A significant milestone arrived in 1887. St Annes a primary school opened on Booterstown Avenue. It held 600 pupils.
The Sisters of Mercy continued their success in education. In 1968 they opened a new school. They named it Our Lady of Mercy Convent School. A boy’s school later opened on Grotto Avenue. This transformed Our Lady of Mercy Convent School into an all-girls school. In 1969 St Annes and Our Lady of Mercy Convent School merged. The combined school population grew substantially. The school underwent a significant refurbishment from 1988 to 1991. Today Our Lady of Mercy Convent School thrives. It upholds the Mercy Sisters’ ethos. Over 250 girls attend this happy friendly school. Highly qualified teachers offer a robust primary education. Innovation care and respect guide their teaching.
