The story begins long before the church’s construction, back in the days when the land was part of the vast Allard Plantation. Imagine a time when this bustling avenue was but a dusty road. This area, bordering the historic Bayou St. John, was coveted real estate, eventually becoming part of New Orleans City Park. Our Lady of the Rosary Catholic Church owes its existence to a promise made. Mrs. Fanny Labatut Blanc, a resident of the burgeoning neighborhood, saw the need for a parish church. In 1855, she generously donated land and materials, dreaming of a spiritual haven for her community. While the initial attempt to establish a parish faltered, Mrs. Blanc’s vision didn’t fade. Decades later, her descendants urged the Archdiocese to honor her wish. Finally, in 1907, Our Lady of the Rosary Parish was founded.
