“One Heart in the Father.” That’s what “Cor Unum in Patre” means in Latin. Here at Our Lady of Schoenstatt Shrine, this phrase embodies the very essence of this sacred space.
Our Lady of Schoenstatt Shrine stands as the ninth Schoenstatt Shrine in the United States. It was dedicated on October 18, 2008. The Schoenstatt Movement originates from Schoenstatt near Vallendar, Germany. Father Joseph Kentenich founded it in 1914. Schoenstatt means “beautiful place.”
This shrine offers tranquility and peace. Our Mother Thrice Admirable guides us to God here. She provides solace for those seeking answers. She welcomes all into her Mother’s heart.
In 1962, the Schoenstatt Sisters of Mary brought the Schoenstatt spirituality to San Antonio. They arrived at St. Lawrence, the Martyr Catholic Church. They quickly established a school and youth groups. Soon, the Shrine of Unity was built. It became a pilgrimage site.
In 1973, the Schoenstatt community crowned Mary as Queen of Unity. They hoped she would help them build a replica of the original shrine. After searching for the perfect location, they found this beautiful 52-acre property. It became Mount Schoenstatt.
The Cor Unum in Patre Shrine is more than just a building. It’s a spiritual home and a place for inner renewal. It sends people out to spread the message. The Schoenstatt Movement seeks to renew the world in Christ through Mary.
