Blessed and opened on February 11 1962 Our Lady of Lourdes Church in Seven Hills stands as a testament to faith. Its story began much earlier though. Christmas masses in 1951 and 1952 were held in a memorial hall. The burgeoning community needed a proper church. Reverend Bernard Massey’s legacy laid the groundwork. He celebrated masses there until his death in 1957. Reverend Hugh Law took over. He saw the need for a dedicated parish. The Feast of Our Lady of Lourdes in 1958 inspired the church’s name. A significant event in 1960 was the opening of St Bernadette’s church-school at Lalor Park. This was a crucial step in the parish’s development. The original church building had glass and timber walls. These were later replaced with brick in the 1980s. Its development continued. A parish center was created from a house in 1991. Later it moved to its present location in 1996. The church underwent a major roof replacement in 2009. A new insulated roof was installed. The year 2012 brought a joyous Golden Jubilee celebration. This included a parish dinner dance youth talent quests and a thanksgiving mass. Further upgrades took place. These included the installation of television monitors a new projector and kitchen renovations. The church continues to serve its community. It remains a place of worship and community gathering. The vision of Our Lady of Lourdes is a welcoming community. Guided by their mother they strive to fulfill baptismal promises. They strive to serve God and support one another. Their mission is to celebrate faith meaningfully. They aim to make Jesus Christ visible through word and action. They foster prayer worship and fraternity. They support spiritual formation and Catholic education. They accept responsibility for parish structures and activities. They use their cultural diversity to enrich their community. They form support and care groups to serve the community. Our Lady of Lourdes in Seven Hills is more than a church. It’s a living testament to faith community and unwavering dedication.
