The cornerstone of faith. That’s what Our Lady Comforter of the Afflicted Parish represents. Standing before this church in Waltham Massachusetts you feel its profound history.

Our Lady Comforter of the Afflicted Parish wasn’t always here. Its origins lie in a vision of Father James Baxter. He saw a need for a new parish near several hospitals. These hospitals served the afflicted. This inspired the parish’s name. It officially opened in 1930. It was near Middlesex County Sanitorium Metropolitan State Hospital and the Fernald School.

Father Baxter’s dedication was extraordinary. He shouldered the burden of debt himself. He considered it an offering to Our Lady. A testament to his faith and his commitment to the community.

The church wasn’t always as grand as it stands today. In 1962 they obtained a permit for a new building. Cardinal Cushing consecrated the new altar. Relics of Saint Agatha and Saint Victoriana are within. These saints exemplify strength and resilience. They are fitting patrons for the parish.

The 1986 fiftieth anniversary brought a special blessing. Pope John Paul II sent his apostolic blessing. He expressed his shared love for the poor sick and suffering. The church’s mission resonated with him.

Over the years Our Lady Comforter of the Afflicted Parish has expanded. A new addition in 1999 brought new classrooms a science lab and more. This underscores the parish’s commitment to education and community growth. It’s a place of solace and spiritual growth. It’s a place where people find comfort and hope.

Our Lady Comforter of the Afflicted Parish continues to serve. It provides spiritual guidance and community support. It embodies its name. It offers comfort to the afflicted. It stands as a beacon of faith hope and charity. It’s more than just a building. It is a living testament to unwavering faith.
