The Ossario della Battaglia di Magenta commemorates the fallen soldiers of the Battle of Magenta, fought on June 4, 1859. This battle, a clash between the Austrian Empire and the allied forces of France and the Kingdom of Sardinia, marked a turning point in the Second Italian War of Independence. The walls are lined with human bones, a silent testament to the over 5,000 lives lost. Two skeletons, one of a Hungarian soldier and the other a French Zouave, lie in the center.
