Nestled within the Sincan district of Ankara lies Osmaniye Mahallesi. It’s a neighborhood steeped in history, a place where the echoes of the past intertwine with the rhythms of modern life. Osmaniye Mahallesi wasn’t always a bustling neighborhood. It began as a strategic settlement along the Silk Road. The Turks, particularly the Oghuz tribes, established control over this route to safeguard trade and movement through Anatolia. Osmaniye Mahallesi became a melting pot of cultures. Turks and Greeks lived side-by-side, their lives interwoven in a tapestry of shared experiences. This coexistence continued until the population exchange. Before that time, Greeks from the Zir Valley would come to Osmaniye Mahallesi to trade. They bartered goods and livestock in exchange for gas, oil, and agricultural tools. The history of Osmaniye Mahallesi is even documented in Evliya Çelebi’s Seyahatname. He mentions both the town of Zir and the village of Osmaniye. This vibrant history is etched into the very fabric of Osmaniye Mahallesi. A significant change occurred on July 23, 2004. The enactment of the Metropolitan Municipality Law, published in the Official Gazette, redefined Ankara’s boundaries. Osmaniye Mahallesi, falling within the 50-kilometer radius, transitioned from a village to a neighborhood within the city. Today, Osmaniye Mahallesi is a thriving community of 662 residents. It’s located 33 kilometers from Ankara and a mere 5 kilometers from Sincan. Osmaniye Mahallesi has seen remarkable population growth over the years. In 2007, the population stood at 656, gradually increasing to its present-day count.
