Devotion carved in stone. That’s what you sense standing before the Oratoire Sainte-Anne. This small chapel holds a quiet significance a testament to faith.

Oratoire Sainte-Anne is a wayside shrine. It stands as a simple reminder of devotion. The shrine’s height reaches about four meters.

Imagine the hands that built this oratory. Think of the prayers whispered within its walls. People sought solace here. They found a connection to something greater.

Brother Andrè Bessette dedicated a small chapel in 1904. He built it with the help of Brother Abundius and friends. This humble start later became Saint Joseph’s Oratory of Mount Royal. The authorities approved construction of the future Basilica in 1914.

Brother Andrè faced many challenges. Despite this he remained dedicated to Saint Joseph. He believed in the power of prayer. The small chapel quickly became a place of pilgrimage. People came seeking healing and hope.

The original chapel was enlarged several times between 1908 and 1912. In 1918 the small chapel was relocated. This made way for the new crypt church.

Brother Andrè died in 1937. Over one million people paid their respects. His devotion inspired countless individuals.

The Oratory was moved again in 1954. It was transported to the level of the Esplanade. In 1955, the Oratory achieved the rank of Minor Basilica. A monument dedicated to Brother Andrè was unveiled.

Even today people visit Saint Joseph’s Oratory. They seek the peace and inspiration. The original small chapel stands as a reminder of humble beginnings. It shows unwavering faith.

The Oratoire Sainte-Anne might seem small. Yet it represents a powerful story of faith. Consider the history as you stand here. Remember Brother Andrè. Reflect on the devotion that built this special place.
