Could a church built on faith and prayer truly change lives? Open Heart Church Philadelphia stands as a testament to this power. This church, nestled in Philadelphia, has a rich history. It’s a story of faith, perseverance, and growth. Open Heart Church of Philadelphia’s journey began almost 36 years ago with a divine message to Pastor Robert Hanna. “When you receive the congregation, judge uprightly.” This guidance, found in Psalms 75:1-2, became the church’s foundational scripture. With his wife, Maxcine, and their children by his side, Pastor Hanna began the search for a home for their fledgling congregation. Encouraged by a fellow believer that God would provide, they soon found a building at 624 South 59th Street. In December 1981, with just his family, Pastor Hanna began holding services. Slowly but surely, the congregation grew. Families like the Boones, Carters, Fords, Logans, Swinsons, and Sawyers joined the Hannas. They became the pioneers of Open Heart Church, along with members from other ministries who united in prayer. Mother Thelma Bady stands out among these early prayer warriors. The church flourished, eventually outgrowing its original space. Once again, Pastor Hanna heeded the call and led the church to its current location at 6018-22 Larchwood Avenue. Through relentless fundraising, the new building was not only acquired but also paid off. Pastor Hanna continued to remodel and expand, transforming Open Heart Church into Open Heart Ministries International. Open Heart Church’s influence extended beyond its walls. Additional churches were established, with Pastor Hanna becoming Bishop Hanna and installing his son, Pastor Derrick Hanna, as the leader of the first expansion church in Springfield. Pastor Derrick Hanna later served as General Overseer for Open Heart Ministries International and as pastor of Open Heart Church of Philadelphia for 10 years. In December 2018, Bishop Hanna installed Pastor Christopher Hanna, Sr. as the pastor of Open Heart Church of Philadelphia. Another branch, Open Heart Church of Kingstree, SC, was also established, where Bishop and Mother Hanna now reside. From its humble beginnings, Open Heart Church Philadelphia has blossomed into a network of churches. It’s a testament to the power of faith, prayer, and a commitment to “Build the Kingdom of God, One Soul at a Time!”
