It’s more than just the tranquility of the Cambodian countryside. Ong Mong temple whispers stories of centuries past, a testament to a time when this land echoed with the chants of monks. Ong Mong temple was once known as Yasodharacrama, meaning “Hermitage of Yashovarman”. This name reflects the legacy of King Yasovarman, who ruled from 889 to 910 AD. During his reign, a hundred hermitages were built across the kingdom, fostering the study and practice of various religious sects. Today, only a fragment of the original Ong Mong temple remains: a small, square laterite structure that once sheltered a sacred stele. The stele, now residing in Tep Pranam, bears inscriptions that tell of Ong Mong’s founding and its Buddhist roots. Imagine the insightful teachings and philosophical debates that once filled this space. Although time has taken its toll on the physical structure of Ong Mong, its spiritual heart still beats strong.
