One Tabor Center

In 1984, a sleek, postmodern giant arose in Denver’s skyline. One Tabor Center, a 408-foot skyscraper, quickly became a prominent landmark. One Tabor Center stands tall with its 30 floors, marking its place as the 15th tallest building in Denver. Designed by the renowned Kohn Pedersen Fox Associates, One Tabor Center boasts a substantial presence. Its floor area encompasses a vast 669,000 square feet. Located at 1200 Seventeenth Street, One Tabor Center occupies a prime spot. It sits between Sixteenth and Seventeenth Streets on Lawrence Street. Flanking it are the covered Tabor Center Mall on the 16th Street side. On the 17th Street side, you’ll find an open plaza. Interestingly, the initial vision for One Tabor Center included a twin. Two Tabor Center was intended to mirror One Tabor Center, creating a striking architectural duo. Economic conditions, however, stalled this ambitious plan. The foundation and caissons for Two Tabor Center were already in place. You can still see them today, artfully concealed beneath aluminum sheathing. Recently, One Tabor Center received some modern updates. In early 2018, an enhanced outdoor public plaza was unveiled, facing 17th Street. A remodeled entrance was also added. This serves as the primary entrance for both the existing One Tabor Center and the future Two Tabor Center. The parking structure beneath One Tabor Center is another interesting detail. It was designed to accommodate both towers. Over the years, several designs for Two Tabor have been proposed. The most recent design, unveiled in March 2018, envisions a 35-story, 495-foot commercial tower. This would finally complete the Tabor Center development, fulfilling the original vision.
