Heard the one about the skyscraper that’s both a luxury residence and a swanky hotel? That’s One Forty West. This impressive tower stands tall in Frankfurt’s Westend-Süd district. It rises 145 meters into the sky. This makes it the 22nd tallest building in Frankfurt.

One Forty West is part of the Kulturcampus Complex. It stands proudly beside the Senckenberg Turm. Completed in 2020, it is a fairly new landmark.

Before One Forty West, the AfE-Turm stood on this site. The Johann Wolfgang Goethe University owned the AfE-Turm. It was demolished in 2014 after serving as offices and seminar rooms.

Let’s talk about One Forty West’s design. Commerz Real acquired the site in 2015. They partnered with project developer Groß & Partner. Cyrus Moser Architects won the architectural competition. Their revised design was chosen in March 2016. Construction began at the end of 2016.

What makes One Forty West special? It’s a hybrid high-rise. It combines apartments and a hotel. The first 16 floors house a four-star hotel. Melía Hotels International signed a 25-year lease. The hotel opened in June 2021.

Above the hotel, from the 24th floor up, are the residences. You’ll find 94 condominiums and 93 rental apartments. Condominiums occupy the highest floors. These residences offer stunning views. Each apartment has a balcony. Residents can see the Frankfurt skyline or the Taunus hills.

Luxury is a key feature here at One Forty West. A 24-hour concierge service is available. Even a refrigerated wine cellar is installed in the basement.

The apartments are quite exclusive. Prices started at 735000 euros back in 2020. Rental apartments went for 35 euros per square meter.

Lindner Building Envelope GmbH contributed to the facade. The Skybar on the 15th floor features an outdoor terrace. The lower part of the building has a steel mullion-and-transom facade.

Interestingly, the construction required precise logistics. Drainage channels had to arrive on specific floors at exact times. There was no room for intermediate storage.

One Forty West embodies the concept of a vertical city. Its stepped balconies create visual axes across floors. This design brings Cyrus Moser’s vision to life. One Forty West is more than just a building. It’s a symbol of modern Frankfurt.
