Founded in a Compton home on March 2 1992 Omni Ministries began humbly. Elder Rebecca Roberts guided its early days. She answered a call to ministry through prayer and fasting. The ministry’s first location was at 1315 N Bullis Road. It was a small beginning. Doubters predicted its quick demise. They said it wouldn’t last six months. However Omni Ministries thrived. The Lord blessed the ministry. Minister Doretha Cooper became a crucial part of its early success. She served as an invaluable armor bearer and business manager. Little did she know she was being groomed for leadership.
Omni Ministries experienced significant growth. Young people joined. The church focused on the Apostles’ teachings. Faith and dedication to God were emphasized. In 2012 Minister Doretha Cooper was ordained. On June 1 2014 she became the pastor. She shifted the ministry’s focus to winning souls for the kingdom. This wasn’t just about church membership. It was about making a real difference. Dr Cooper’s leadership propelled Omni Ministries forward.
The ministry had a mandate to be debt-free. This applied to the church and its members’ homes. Members were encouraged to be doers of the Word not just hearers. This focus on action led to great things. On December 19 2019 the Rosecrans edifice was paid off. This achievement led to the acquisition of a larger building. On June 28 2020 Omni Ministries moved to its current location in Compton. A special service called The Expansion dedicated the new edifice on July 5 2020.
Omni Ministries’ vision extended beyond the church walls. It included a daycare center for low-income families. A home for battered women and children was also envisioned. A thrift store serving the community was part of the plan. This vision materialized through the Omni Community Development Center. This nonprofit organization offers various services. These include housing assistance and support for various vulnerable populations. It also provides tutoring and community meals. The ministry serves Thanksgiving dinners hot soup and cornbread and distributes clothing and gift bags on Christmas Eve.
Today Omni Ministries continues to serve. It is open to worshippers of all ages and backgrounds. Its history is a testament to faith perseverance and a dedication to serving others. It’s a story of answered prayers and a commitment to making a difference in the Compton community. It’s a place where the spirit of community shines bright.
