Here it stands a place where future healers once walked. What stories do these walls hold about the Oman Medical College?

Oman Medical College was once a prominent institution in the Sultanate of Oman. It shaped the futures of many aspiring doctors and pharmacists. The college was in Muscat and Sohar in the North Batinah region. Its pharmacy campus thrived in Bowsher.

Founded in 2001, Oman Medical College quickly became a vital part of Oman’s medical education landscape. It offered degrees in medicine and pharmacy. These programs attracted students from across the region and beyond.

Imagine the eager faces of first-year students. They embarked on their academic journey with a foundation course. The second and third years were completed before the medical school years of Sohar campus. Some coursework even took place in Rustaq. Students learned from doctors at Rustaq Hospital.

The Sohar campus was associated with Sohar Hospital. This was one of the country’s largest governmental hospitals. The practical experience gained here was invaluable.

The Doctor of Medicine program spanned seven years. It provided comprehensive training in all aspects of medicine. The Bowsher campus offered a Bachelor of Science in Pharmacy. This degree took five and a half years to complete.

Oman Medical College had affiliations with West Virginia University. This partnership enriched the curriculum and provided students with international exposure. The college was also recognized by various international organizations. These included the World Health Organization and the World Federation for Medical Education.

Consider the challenges students faced rigorous coursework demanding clinical rotations and countless hours of study. Yet they persevered driven by a passion for healing and a commitment to serving their communities.

In 2018, Oman Medical College merged with Caledonian College of Engineering. This merger formed the National University of Science and Technology. Although Oman Medical College no longer exists as a separate entity its legacy lives on. Its contributions to medical education in Oman are still felt today.

The National University continues the tradition of excellence. It prepares high-quality health professionals. These professionals meet the healthcare needs of Oman and beyond.

As we stand here remember the countless individuals who passed through these halls. They dedicated their lives to medicine and patient care. Oman Medical College may be gone but its spirit endures in the hearts and minds of those it touched.
