The Oman Oil and Gas Exhibition Centre is a place where you can learn about the history of oil and gas in Oman. It is located on Seih Al Maleh Street in Al-Qurum, Muscat. The museum was established in 1995 and is a donation from Petroleum Development Oman (PDO). It is an interactive journey that explores the discovery, extraction and use of fossil fuels in Oman. The centre tells the story of the discovery of oil in Oman. Did you know that the geological survey of the country in 1925 by the D’Arcy Exploration Company found no conclusive evidence of oil? It wasn’t until twelve years later that a concession was granted to the Iraq Petroleum Company (IPC) for central Oman. The first successful discoveries, on a commercially relevant level, were made at Yibal in 1962 followed by the discovery of the Natih field a year later. The Oil and Gas Exhibition Centre provides valuable insights into the vital role of oil and gas in Oman’s economic history.
