Ever wondered where German cyclists hone their skills? Welcome to the Oderlandhalle. This sports and event hall is in Frankfurt Oder in Brandenburg. The Oderlandhalle is more than just a building. It is a hub for sports and events.
In 1988, the Oderlandhalle was inaugurated. It spans a vast 13,500 square meters. The Oderlandhalle is a place where athletes push their limits. Concerts fill the hall with music. Crowds of up to 1,500 spectators can gather here.
Initially, the Oderlandhalle featured a 285.714-meter-long wooden cycling track. Its curves boasted a steep 49-degree banking. In its interior, volleyball, handball and track and field found their place.
Until 2008, three million euros went into Oderlandhalle renovations. A significant update arrived between April 2013 and October 2014. The track was shortened to the international standard of 250 meters. The curve banking was adjusted to 41 degrees.
The Oderlandhalle is Germany’s only indoor cycling track. It meets international UCI standards. This makes year-round training possible. The German Cycling Federation uses the Oderlandhalle. They hold tryout races and training sessions.
The Sportschule Frankfurt Oder is connected to the Oderlandhalle. It has a boarding school. The entire complex serves as an Olympic training center. It is a national training center for various sports.
In 2012 and 2017, the Oderlandhalle hosted the German Track Cycling Championships. Maximilian Levy set a 200-meter track record with 9.778 seconds. The UCI Junior Track Cycling World Championships took place here in 2019. Since 2007, the “Frankfurter Kreisel” event occurs annually. This event also determines the German champions in the Omnium.
Beyond the track, the Oderlandhalle offers much more. There is a compensation area with two dry saunas. An infrared sauna and an ice bath are available. A weight room and performance diagnostics are on site. Cyclists benefit from cycle ergometry. There is also a treadmill and a lab. A hypoxia system enhances training.
In 2018, a multifunctional extension optimized the Oderlandhalle. This addition includes workshops and material storage. There is bicycle washing and a laundry room. Changing rooms and garages are included. A multifunctional sports room completes the picture.
Inside the Oderlandhalle, parquet playing fields accommodate volleyball and handball. The Oderlandhalle stands as a testament to Frankfurt Oder’s commitment to sports.
