High above Shenzhen a breathtaking panorama unfolds before us at Observation Deck No. 4. Have you ever wondered what it feels like to stand atop one of the world’s tallest structures?
Welcome to the Ping An Finance Centre. It is a symbol of Shenzhen’s meteoric rise. This supertall skyscraper pierces the sky at a staggering 599.1 meters. That is 1,966 feet. Completed in 2017 this architectural marvel stands as the tallest building in Shenzhen. It is the second tallest in China and the fifth tallest globally.
But Observation Deck No. 4 offers more than just bragging rights. Known as Free Sky it resides on the 116th floor. At 541 meters above sea level a 360-degree view awaits. It once held the record for the highest observation deck in a building at 562.5 meters or 1,845 feet.
Imagine the city sprawling beneath you. To the east Diwang Tower and KK100 showcase the vibrant Luohu District. Looking west Shopping Park Shenzhen Golf Club and Shenzhen Bay paint a picture of prosperity. Qianhai and Shekou Free Trade Zone add to the brilliant skyline.

Getting to the top is an experience. The building boasts the fastest elevators in the country. They zoom at 10 meters per second. That is reaching the 116th floor in a mere 55 seconds.
Interestingly the building faced a temporary halt in construction. Concerns arose about the use of sea sand in the concrete. This could corrode the steel structure. Sample testing resolved the issue and construction resumed.
The Ping An Finance Centre also has a twin. The South Tower rises 290 meters. The 47-story skyscraper houses a five-star Park Hyatt hotel. A retail bridge connects the two skyscrapers creating a seamless experience.
