“If we only had 10 years left to live would we keep doing what we’re doing?” This question resonated deeply within two pastors Don Leetch and Dean Kerns back in 1963. It led them on a transformative journey. Their answer? No. They left their successful pastorates. They embarked on a new path. This path led them to the founding of Oak Haven Baptist Church.
Oak Haven Baptist Church isn’t just a building. It’s a testament to faith perseverance and a bold vision. It’s a story of answering a profound question. It’s a story about following God’s calling. It’s a story deeply rooted in the simple act of obedience.
Initially they began printing and distributing Gospel tracts. They shared their faith through witnessing. They established a small print shop to support their efforts. This led to the creation of Outreach Publications. Outreach Publications later gave rise to DaySpring greeting cards. A company that became widely known and respected.
The Oak Haven vision found its genesis during those seven years. Years filled with humble struggles. They faced difficulties and periods of doubt. They persevered in their commitment to God. They established Gospel Outreach Ministries. This ministry started with the GO House a place where young people gathered. They worshipped they sought the Lord and were discipled. Many found faith and purpose there.
Gospel Outreach Ministries emphasized that every believer is a minister. Their faith was expressed in everyday life. Not just within church walls but also in homes communities and workplaces. The church’s purpose transcended the traditional. It included serving in the world outside.
Outreach Publications grew significantly. In 1979 it moved to Northwest Arkansas. The move was to a 500 acre property. This became home to families and ministry facilities. These facilities were used for DaySpring products’ creation and distribution.
In 2003 Dean Kerns and Don Leetch established the Oak Haven Foundation. This nonprofit organization was designed to sustain their vision. It was to keep their ministry going long after they were gone. Their purpose was simple: to do what they could in their generation to make Christ known. Oak Haven Baptist Church stands as a powerful legacy. It is a living embodiment of their faith-filled journey.
