The Nyamirambo Women’s Centre offers so much more than just a safe haven. It’s a thriving hub of activity. It provides vocational and educational opportunities. It supports over 50 families. The Umutima project is at the heart of it all. Umutima meaning “heart” in Kinyarwanda. It’s a small business cooperative. It teaches women valuable skills in craft making and tailoring. Beautiful clothing home décor and accessories are created using kitenge fabric banana leaves sisal plant fiber and palm leaves.
This isn’t just about creating beautiful things. The project is a lifeline for many women. It provides fair wages and a sense of purpose. It empowers them to support their families. Beyond the craft workshops the centre also provides literacy classes English lessons computer training and sewing classes. They offer workshops on mental health women’s rights and nutrition.
