How about a quiet escape surrounded by forests and meadows? That’s Nußdorf. This charming village earned a silver medal in 2009. The award was for the “Our village has a future – our village should be more beautiful” competition.

Nußdorf’s story goes way back. The first mention of Nußdorf was in 798. It appeared in the Breves Notitiae. During the 12th and 13th centuries, it was home to an important noble family. Later, Nußdorf was part of the Bavarian Rentamt Burghausen. It also belonged to the Traunstein district court.

Let’s talk about regionality. Natural cultivation of organic vegetables is very popular here. You can find a wide selection of organic nurseries in the Sondermoning district. Sondermoning also has a Celtic rampart. It shows that this cultural area has been settled for centuries.

In 1694, Count Franz Guidobald Törring zu Pertenstein bought Neuamerang Castle in Sondermoning. It was the seat of a Hofmark. But in the mid-18th century, the castle was used as a quarry.

In 1818, the municipality of Nußdorf was established. This happened with the Gemeindeedikt in Bavaria. There was a forced administrative community with Chieming and Seeon-Seebruck in 1972. But it was dissolved again in 1986.

On January 3, 1870, the municipality of Sondermoning was incorporated into Nußdorf.

Between 1988 and 2018, the village grew. The population rose from 1815 to 2456. That is an increase of 35.3 percent. In 2011, the three largest villages made up nearly 75% of the total population. These were Nußdorf, Sondermoning, and Aiging. The population grew by about 0.6% each year in 2016.

Nußdorf has a few interesting sights. There is the parish church of St. Laurentius. Also worth seeing is the church in Sondermoning. It is about 800 years old. It features a Gothic winged altar. In Aiging, you can find the Tafernwirtschaft from 1471. Nußdorf also had Bavaria’s last known working pneumatic high-performance siren.

The most important economic area is the Aiging industrial park. It mainly houses medium-sized businesses. Other small businesses are mostly in Nußdorf and Sondermoning.

About 52% of the municipal area is used for agriculture. 33% is used for forestry. This is about the national average. Another source of income is gravel extraction. It currently takes up almost 2% of the municipal area. An expansion to 4% is planned. This is well above the national average.

As of 2020, there were 234 employees in the manufacturing sector. There were 197 in trade, transport and hospitality. There were 20 in corporate services. These people were all subject to social insurance.

Since May 1, 2020, Toni Wimmer has been the mayor. He was elected on March 29, 2020. He won 55.4 percent of the vote. His predecessor was Johann Gnadl.

Nußdorf is an ideal base for exploring the area. You can enjoy cycling, hiking, and cultural trips. So take a deep breath and enjoy the peaceful charm of Nußdorf.
