“What if a school was born from a chief’s desire for education?” That’s the story of Nungua Senior High School. This school stands in the heart of Nungua along the Accra-Tema beach road.

Nungua Senior High School began in 1958. Nii Daniel Quaye Tawiah founded it. He was a native of Nungua. His son, Enoch Otu Quaye, became chief. He was installed with the stool name Nii Odai Ayiku IV.

Enoch was only 15. He had been at Presbyterian Secondary School in Odumase-Krobo. He wanted to continue his education. He also needed to be available for chieftaincy duties.

Nii Quaye Tawiah transformed his home. It became classrooms and an administration block. It also had staff bungalows. He funded the school himself. Later, the government took over.

Nungua Senior High School presented its first students for the General Certificate of Education in May 1963. There were 15 students.
