Is indifference truly an option? The towering mural before us screams a resounding “No”. This is “Not caring is no option”, a powerful statement splashed across a building at Müllerstraße 174.

The not caring is no option Mural is part of the #GenerationEqualityMurals series. Street Art for Mankind curated this project. Other murals in the series can be found in Mexico City, Paris, New York, and London. Empowered female street artists created each mural. Their mission was to portray “women supporting women”.

HERA, also known as Jasmin Siddiqui, created this mural. She is a street artist from Frankfurt. UN Women and Street Art for Mankind partnered to bring this mural to Berlin. Bayer also supported the project and donated the wall.

The not caring is no option Mural stands 22 meters high. It depicts a middle-aged nurse with her arms crossed confidently. She represents strength and resilience, a pillar of her community supporting women of all ages and ethnicities. Her daughters stand on her left shoulder. They gaze toward the future with ambition. They are ready for challenges.

The mural was unveiled on July 28th, 2023. It coincided with the second year of the Generation Equality initiative. This initiative calls for greater commitment to women’s economic empowerment. It aims to transform the care economy.

UN Women emphasizes that women still do most of the care work in Germany. This work is often unpaid or underpaid. They advocate for a gender-just society.
