“Leaders are made not born” is the motto that echoes within these walls. This is Norton University. It stands as Cambodia’s first private university.

Norton University was founded on December 2, 1996. Professor Chan Sok Khieng had a vision. He wanted to create an institution that would shape future leaders. Classes began in December 1996. The university gained official recognition on September 18, 1997.

On February 28, 1997 Norton University was formally inaugurated. Samdech Hun Sen graced the ceremony with his presence. He was the Prime Minister of the Royal Kingdom of Cambodia. A further sub-decree approved Norton University’s reformation in 2000. It granted the university rights and privileges. Norton University could open faculties. It could also conduct postgraduate and professional courses.

The Graduate School began in 2001. This was in affiliation with Ateneo de Zamboanga University. It is located in the Philippines. Diplomas were jointly signed. The President of Norton University and the President of Ateneo de Zamboanga University both signed. In 2001, Norton University awarded its first Bachelor’s Degrees. There were 453 graduates. They studied business economics law and computer science.

Norton University quickly became known. It became the best IT Education Center in Cambodia. In 2010 it received an award. The National ICT Development Authority recognized it. The Ministry of Post-Telecommunications and International Data Group also recognized it.

Today Norton University operates two campuses. Both are located in Phnom Penh. Professor Chan Sok Khieng serves as the rector. Professor Ung Vann Thouen is the vice rector. Norton University continues to uphold its motto. It educates tomorrow’s leaders. Its impact on Cambodian education is undeniable. It prepares students for success. Norton University helps them contribute to society. It has a rich history and a bright future.
