Founded in September 1964 Northwest Evangelistic Center originally Northwest Baptist Church has a rich history. It began as a small congregation branching from Berean Baptist Church in Houston. Johnny Morgan a pastor from Dallas led the early years. The church saw growth and expansion. It played a significant role in bringing many to Christ both locally and internationally.
Through the years Northwest Evangelistic Center has seen various pastors. Leland Lanier served from 1978 to 2009. Tim Dulany followed until 2016. Lester Hutson then took over. His extensive experience included pastoring churches in Lufkin and Beaumont. He also served at Berean Baptist Church for many years. Darren Simpson became Senior Pastor in 2021. He brought leadership experience from other churches.
The church faced challenges. It overcame difficult times. The congregation experienced renewal and growth. They completed a renovation project. The facilities are now in excellent condition. The church is debt-free. Currently the average Sunday attendance is over 100.
Northwest Evangelistic Center’s mission extends beyond its building. The focus is on bringing people to Christ. They offer programs to help people learn about Jesus. The church aims to be a spiritual lighthouse in Houston’s Garden Oaks and Oak Forest neighborhoods. The church continues to strive to fulfill its mission until Jesus returns.
