On this very spot, more than a century ago, a seed of faith was planted. This seed grew into what we know today as North Side Lutheran Church. North Side Lutheran Church was established in 1917. This church is one of the many Lutheran churches that dot the city of Houston. In fact, Houston boasts a diverse religious landscape with approximately 1,572 churches. These churches represent numerous denominations, including 93 Catholic churches, 508 Baptist churches, 29 Pentecostal churches, 97 Methodist churches, and a staggering 845 churches of other denominations. The Lutheran faith itself is rooted in the teachings of Martin Luther. He sought to reform the Roman Catholic Church. Lutheran churches adhere to the Apostles’, Nicene, and Athanasian Creeds. They believe in one God existing as three distinct persons: the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit. A cornerstone of Lutheran belief is the doctrine of justification. This doctrine emphasizes that salvation from sin is attained solely through God’s grace and accepted through faith alone. And so, North Side Lutheran Church stands as a testament to these enduring beliefs, a spiritual haven for its community.
