“Where faith and community intertwine” might perfectly describe this place, the North Side Church. Founded in the heart of Houston, North Side Church has been a beacon of faith since its humble beginnings in 1962.
It all started with four men, drawn together by a shared desire to delve deeper into the scriptures. Their gathering blossomed into something larger, a congregation eager to grow in their understanding of God’s word. They welcomed Reverend Cleothus Montgomery as their pastor, marking the official start of North Side Church in October 1962.
Reverend Montgomery’s leadership, spanning an incredible 54 years, shaped North Side Church into more than just a place of worship. It became a pillar of the community, a source of strength and guidance in matters of faith, politics, and education. This impact is physically evident in the four buildings that have housed the ever-growing congregation over the years. In 2000, underlining their commitment to the community, they acquired their current sanctuary, followed by the addition of the “Cleothus Montgomery Family Life Center”.
Today, the legacy of Reverend Montgomery continues to inspire under the guidance of Pastor Valor Cooper. His biblically-centered teachings resonate with the congregation, furthering their spiritual growth and strengthening their bond with the community. This dedication to service and outreach is a cornerstone of North Side Church. Through various ministries, they extend a helping hand locally and globally, affirming their belief that everyone has value because “Jesus Christ is Lord”.
