North Bay Terraces

Could a neighborhood be both tranquil and conveniently close to city life? Here in North Bay Terraces, that paradox comes to life. North Bay Terraces is a quiet, family-friendly neighborhood nestled in the hilly southeastern corner of San Diego. Known for its panoramic views and rolling hills, North Bay Terraces offers suburban tranquility alongside easy freeway access. North Bay Terraces is actually part of a larger area called Bay Terraces, which is divided into North and South sections. North Bay Terraces shares the 92114 zip code with the neighboring Skyline area, sometimes called “Skyline Hills.” Interestingly, North Bay Terraces is the largest neighborhood within the Skyline-Paradise Hills Community Planning Area. While feeling secluded, North Bay Terraces is just 12 miles from downtown San Diego. The land that became North Bay Terraces was annexed by San Diego in 1969. Over the following two decades, the area transformed. Originally a canyon between Paradise Hills and Skyline, it was developed into the residential neighborhood we see today. North Bay Terraces’ early history wasn’t easy. Developers struggled to attract buyers for the new homes in what was then considered a high-crime area. Local programs and federal subsidies helped, eventually attracting military families, low-income families, and a significant number of Filipino immigrants, drawn by the proximity to Naval Base San Diego. This Filipino-American community remains a vibrant part of North Bay Terraces today, representing a large portion of the population. The northernmost part of North Bay Terraces, near Morse High School and the Skyline neighborhood, is known as the most affluent section. North Bay Terraces has a slower pace of life than other, more urban parts of San Diego. Numerous parks and recreation options, along with good schools and spacious residential subdivisions, make it attractive to families and retirees. And, with easy highway access and San Diego MTS bus service, the rest of the city is easily within reach.
