In 1878, a pivotal moment unfolded for a group of freed slaves. They purchased land from John Nicholson, etching their names into the annals of history. This land became Nicholsonboro, later Nicholsonville, the place where we stand before the Nicholsonville Baptist Church. The Nicholsonville Baptist Church stands as a testament to the community’s enduring spirit. Its history intertwines with the very fabric of this place. 200 former slaves from Jacob Waldburg’s plantation on St. Catherines Island settled in the White Bluff area. This area was between the Little Ogeechee and Vernon Rivers in 1868. By 1883, the community had established a church. Remarkably, the original structure, though weathered, still stands. The building we see today, dating back to around 1890, serves as the most significant landmark of this historic community. It has witnessed generations gather in worship and fellowship. Today, the Nicholsonville Baptist Church continues to serve its community under the leadership of Pastor Julius Roberson. He carries on the legacy of faith and resilience, inviting all to join in worship and experience the warmth of this historic community. Join us for Bible study on Wednesdays at 6:30 PM. Sunday school commences at 9:00 AM, followed by Sunday morning worship at 10:00 AM. The Nicholsonville Baptist Church is not just a building. It is a living testament to the strength and faith of a community that continues to thrive.
