Amidst the bustling energy of Da Nang, discover the serenity of Nhà thờ Hòa Cường. This Catholic church stands as a testament to the resilience and devotion of its community. Nhà thờ Hòa Cường’s story begins in 1958. Father Phan Văn Hiền initiated the construction of a modest church and temporary school. These humble beginnings marked the birth of the Hòa Cường parish, a beacon of faith in a rapidly changing world. In 1971, Father Nguyễn Ngọc Giác spearheaded the church’s reconstruction. This included enhancements to the layout, the construction of surrounding walls, and a new two-story school building dedicated to St. Joseph with eight classrooms. The period following 1975 brought challenges. The church was closed, leaving only the Sunday Masses and catechism classes. The parish faced near-dissolution. Yet, through the steadfast leadership of its clergy and the unwavering commitment of its members, Nhà thờ Hòa Cường persevered. The church was revitalized and continued its growth in subsequent years. The challenges of a growing urban environment and an increasing congregation led to a new construction plan in 2014. Community contributions funded the rebuilding of the church, parish house, and catechism classrooms, creating a renewed space to serve the expanding community. Today, Nhà thờ Hòa Cường serves as more than just a place of worship. It is a cultural hub. It’s a place where the community gathers, learns, and connects. The church continues to celebrate Mass and offers catechism classes. It also hosts special events, community gatherings, charitable activities, and cultural and educational programs. Nhà thờ Hòa Cường’s journey reflects not only faith and hope but also the enduring spirit of a community that has overcome adversity to create a place of peace and spiritual growth in the heart of Da Nang.
