“A priest, you say? In this wilderness?” The old woman chuckled, shaking her head. “Back then, this was all jungle, my boy. Tigers, you see, and…” She trailed off, her gaze turning distant. That’s how I imagine it must have been when Father Trần Đức Tiến first arrived here in the wild year of 1966. This place, you see, Nhà thờ Giáo xứ Bùi Đức, wasn’t always a church. It was a vision, a dream budding amidst the untamed growth. Father Tiến, along with a small group of faithful, started small. They built lives here, homes, and with calloused hands, a simple place of prayer. By 1970, what was once a gathering point for the faithful bloomed into Nhà thờ Giáo xứ Bùi Đức, a full-fledged parish! This sanctuary of faith, you see, it grew from the ground up, brick by brick, fueled by the love and dedication of these early pioneers. Imagine, their simple church taking shape, the scent of fresh wood mingling with the earthy aroma of the surrounding jungle. Through the years, they built a bell tower that pierced the sky, a place for their voices to reach even further towards the heavens. And they didn’t stop there. A school followed, a beacon of knowledge for their children, because faith and education, they often go hand in hand, don’t they? Nhà thờ Giáo xứ Bùi Đức stands today as a testament to their unwavering spirit. Each brick seems to whisper their story, a story of humble beginnings and extraordinary faith.
