Under the warm Texas sun stands New Solid Rock Missionary Baptist Church. Its history isn’t just etched in stone but woven into the very fabric of Northeast Houston. This isn’t just a building. It’s a testament to faith resilience and community.

New Solid Rock Missionary Baptist Church’s roots trace back to a much earlier time. It’s a successor to Solid Rock Baptist Church which itself has a rich and fascinating past. Established in 1965 under Pastor Omie Lee Holliday Solid Rock thrived. Its music ministry evangelism and daycare flourished. Pastor Holliday was a dynamic leader. The church grew as the word of God was preached.

The Solid Rock Baptist Church saw changes in leadership over the years. Pastor Holliday was followed by Reverend Aaron McCardell Jr then Reverend J.P. Anderson and finally Reverend Leonard E Driver. Each pastor left their mark shaping the church’s identity and growth. The church moved locations to 6302 Tidwell Road in 1971 solidifying its presence in the community. Despite facing challenges and loss the church continued to grow under each leader’s guidance.

In 1985 tragedy struck with the passing of Pastor Driver. Yet even in sorrow the church followed his instructions in choosing a successor. The next chapter began with the arrival of Reverend Ross M Cullins Sr in 1986. His leadership saw a period of growth and transition building on the foundation laid by his predecessors.

The Solid Rock Community Development Corporation is a direct outgrowth of the church’s commitment to the community. Established in 1998 it addresses critical needs such as providing affordable homeownership opportunities and educational programs. The Choose Life Summer Day Camp is another initiative born from this dedication to service and growth.

New Solid Rock Missionary Baptist Church continues this legacy. It stands as a beacon of faith hope and community in Northeast Houston. It’s a place where history echoes in every hymn sung every prayer offered and every life touched. It’s a place where the spirit of community and devotion to God continues to flourish. The church isn’t simply a building. It’s a living testament to the enduring power of faith and the transformative strength of community.
