Architect Richard Koch, landscape architect William Wiedorn, and sculptor Enrique Alferez, each a luminary of their time, shaped the garden with their unique talents. Step into the Helis Foundation Enrique Alferez Sculpture Garden, and you’ll find more than just foliage. Fifteen of Alferez’s sculptures stand amidst the greenery, a testament to his enduring legacy. But the New Orleans Botanical Gardens’ story isn’t always rosy. In 2005, Hurricane Katrina ripped through the city, leaving devastation in its wake. The garden, submerged for weeks, lost nearly ninety percent of its plant collection. Yet, from the wreckage bloomed resilience.
