It was a time of great change and the church became a beacon of hope for many. It all began under the guidance of Reverend W.M. Bowie Jr., pastor of True Light Missionary Baptist Church. He served as moderator alongside Reverends Earnest Hogan, R.F. Green, and F.N. Houston. The name “New Jerusalem Missionary Baptist Church” was proposed by Brother E.R. Brew. Interestingly, the church’s first home wasn’t a traditional sanctuary. Services were held in the double car garage of Pastor W. J. Profit and his wife, Dorothy. Just imagine the echoes of hymns and prayers rising from that humble space. Over the years, the New Jerusalem Community Baptist Church grew. It thrived. It faced storms both literal and metaphorical.
