Today New Jersey City University or NJCU is a comprehensive university. It stands in Jersey City. This is one of the nation’s most diverse cities. NJCU is just minutes from New York City.
NJCU offers many programs. The College of Arts and Sciences is one of them. So are Education and Professional Studies. The School of Business is another. There are 59 undergraduate degree programs. There are also 31 graduate programs. These include emerging and interdisciplinary fields.

In 1958, the school could award Bachelor of Arts degrees. A Master of Arts in education followed in 1959. In 1962, it began administering the A. Harry Moore School. This made it one of few colleges with a special-education demonstration school. In 1968, Jersey City State College developed a liberal arts program.
In 1998, university status was granted. The name changed to New Jersey City University. The institution restructured. It included the College of Arts and Sciences. It also included the Colleges of Education and Professional Studies.
Since its founding, NJCU has enhanced the student experience. New campus facilities have been added. These include Vodra Hall and the Irwin Library. The Student Union Building and the Athletic and Fitness Center are also important.
The Visual Arts Building features a sculpture garden. It includes a work by Maya Lin. The George Karnoutsos Arts and Sciences Hall was designed by Michael Graves.
NJCU welcomes students from around the world. The campus includes 27 buildings over 51 acres. In 2002, NJCU partnered with Brookdale Community College. This offered degree completion programs. In 2007, NJCU opened its Harborside facility. This was for graduate business programs.
The NJCU School of Business opened in 2015. It is located at Harborside Plaza 2. It features instructional spaces and data science centers. There is also a simulated trading floor and a waterfront conference center.
Downtown Jersey City is home to “Wall Street West”. The NJCU School of Business is located here. The area offers internships and jobs. It is filled with galleries, theaters, restaurants, and retail stores.
